What is Geofoam?
Geofoam is expanded polystyrene (EPS) manufactured as large lightweight, structural blocks. The blocks vary in sizes, as required for a particular project. The primary function of geofoam is to provide a lightweight, void filler below a highway, bridge approaches, embankments, planter beds, etc. EPS geofoam minimizes settlement on underground utilities. Geofoam is also used in much broader applications, some of the major ones are lightweight fill, green roof fill, thermal insulation, structural void filling, and (when appropriately formed) drainage.
Geofoam has been proven for years to work in conditions where other fill materials such as wood chips, formed concrete, waste products and even natural soils have failed. Geofoam offers ease of installation due to it’s light weight make up and its proven durability to retain its physical properties under engineered conditions.

Geofoam maximizes on-site efficiency, arrives ready to place, requires no special handling or inventory and best of all Geofoam can be installed in any weather condition.
The light weight of EPS Geofoam make it an ideal fill material for a variety of commercial and architectural applications. EPS Geofoam is pre-cut and easy to install, saving on labor and installation time. Its compressive strength provides the stability needed for concrete and landscape applications such as stadium seating, theaters, floor elevation changes and green roofs. Shelter Enterprises labels all EPS Geofoam blocks according to layout drawings to make installation easy and efficient.
Shelter Enterprises maintains testing at regular intervals by an independent, third party, testing agency to verify that our Geofoam products meet or exceed the industry standards of ASTM D6817.
