

On February 17, 2009 President Obama signed a stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Of 2009) that has made some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits. The highlights are:
The tax credits that were previously effective for 2009 have been extended to 2010 as well.
The tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30% of the cost of the material.
The maximum credit has been raised from $500 to $1500 total for the 2 years( 2009 - 2010) and applies to insulating products, as well as other products, for existing homes only.
To qualify for the tax credits on home improvements one must meet the following criteria:
Must be “placed in service” from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.
Must be for taxpayers principal residence.
Tax credit may only be claimed for the cost of the material only.
The Following Shelter Enterprises products qualify as Eligible Building Envelope Components base on the fact that they are an insulation material or system that is specifically and primary designed to reduce the heat loss or gain of a dwelling unit when installed on the dwelling unit and may be taken into account in determining wether the building thermal envelope requirements established by the IECC are satisfied:

1. Have a invoice that shows the cost of the Shelter Enterprises products that you have installed.
2. Fill out a request for the Manufactures Certificate. Shelter Enterprises will return a completed certificate within 10 days. View A Sample Certificate....

3. Keep the Manufactures Certificate that Shelter Enterprises and your invoice for tax records. Please note that you are not required to show these documents unless you have been audited by the IRS.
